Default Borges has BB's back...

In a very borgesian way old Ron thinks that BB knows what he is doing here.. and in his hate for him he thinks the Pats did ok.... thought he would have gone into a seymour like rant and rave..compares Cassell to Scott Mitchell and Vrabel to McGuinest...

In the end only time will tell if Cassel is a player worth the money he’ll be paid, if Vrabel can justify his $3.2 million salary this season and if Brady’s knee is sound. But from what we know today it looks like Belichick didn’t do his old friend any favors, which is no surprise because he’s not in the business of doing favors. He’s in the football business.

Bill Belichick wouldn’t do his mother a favor,” one NFL insider scoffed yesterday. “Anybody who looks at this deal and thinks he did doesn’t know him. Or the guys he just traded.”

Ron Borges, the voice of reason. Never thought I'd say those words.

Although I was dissapointed in the compensation at first, the more I think about it the more I believe that Borges is probably closer to the truth in this situation than the fans who are ready to jump off the bridge or the media who are portraying BB as a man who's either gone soft or senile. I think there's an excellent chance that Vrabel would have been cut, and then what? No compensation for the Pats and a good chance Vrabel ends up with the Jets, another AFC East team, or Mangina in Cleveland. And I'll be surprised if Cassel ends up being a top tier QB in this league, despite his performance in 2008. The new cap space (including from Vrabel) and a great draft pick (#34) are critical components of the big picture and if there were more of a market, we wouldn't be talking about this right now.

But like the previous poster - I have to go take a shower now

Bill Belichick doesn’t deliver friendly favor - BostonHerald.com
I just borrowed ""Bill Belichick wouldn’t do his mother a favor,” one NFL insider scoffed yesterday. “Anybody who looks at this deal and thinks he did doesn’t know him. Or the guys he just traded.”" for another thread. That's the crux of the matter, IMO.

I'm fine with the trade. Vrabs is about done. Cassel could become a great QB if he has the players around him. KC doesnt have a Welker, BUT, you have to imagine that Pioli knows that, and is going to get him the players he needs to be successful. That's his job. I don't know how Matty will do this year with that roster, but i think Pioli will improve the roster enough over the next 2 seasons, and Cassel will be fine.

I'm still concerned that Borges said something nice about BB

Well, we could say Ron Borges is finally right about something.... of course now and then BB might be wrong about something. Usually I don't give this consideration a second thought. But with the Borges seal of approval...

See, I think BB would do his mother any favor she asked for, just NOT if she was employed in the NFL. Let's face it, BB decided that Vrabel had to go, and as others have pointed out, instead of cutting him and letting him sign wherever he wanted (and insulting him and making him madder), like with an AFC East rival, he sent him to a team that can't really do us any harm over the next two years with his pride and salary intact.

All the national know-nothings are clamoring about how BB was duped into giving up a lot for a little, but in reality he rarely makes mistakes on these kinds of things. We now have lots of cap room and a draft pick that is high enough to get a great player, but we won't have to pay as much for him if he was higher up. That sounds very BB-ish to me. He got what he wanted out of this trade.

I don't think BB was duped, but I think he might have felt he wasn't going to get a better enough offer to justify letting this one go.

BTW--there's an article on Bleacher Report talking about this.
