Default Who's in charge?

If Pioli is out looking for a new job who is tending to the patriots needs? They just lost their oc, may lose Pioli, who knows what Bradys and Cassel futures are, they need help on defense and the draft and fa. are coming up.
Who is in charge while they wait around to see if Pioli leaves?

Belichick has been around football his entire life and is proactive about reaching out to talented people. His rolodex must be ENORMOUS.

Bill Belichick and the Kraft family may possibly be vaguely aware of some things going on with the team and will probably do a thing or to about it at some point in the next year or two.

Pioli's main role (as much as anyone knows it) is co-ordinating scouting and managing the cap. The scouts will have done their work on the college season by now and their reports will go to the Pats as usual. The next phase of workouts and combine will come after Pioli makes his decision. The Patriot's policy on contracts will have been decided by BB, Pioli and Kraft during the year so the only problem would be if Pioli wasn't there for the actual negotiations.
No-one knows if there will be a direct replacement for Pioli but I have heard some reports that BB doesn't really want to be a coach/GM so there may be another executive promoted to Pioli's old role but I doubt they would have the same relationship with BB.

If Pioli leaves, the main problems I would foresee for the organisation are that he would want to bring some of his people with him and that he would have his eye on the same players as BB but would have a much better position in the draft.

Belichick is in charge with or without Pioli. Of course he trusts Pioli, leans on him and gives him a lot of responsibility. But, ultimately, Belichick is in charge; 24 months ago, 12 months ago and today.

Certainly valid points but as far as the Staff the best guy would want to fill Pioli's void not leave with him.

And Don't be so sure that Pioli automatically has to go run the same systems (looking for the same type of talent) as us because that will be between him and his new head coach.

Exactly.

If Pioli were the one in charge, the Browns and Chiefs wouldn't have even been able to talk to him.
