Jets, Mets, Nets

They were originally the Titans
True, though the Nets came later. They wanted to distance themselves from the Giants (Titans sounding like a Giants wannabe) and also be more modern (jets replacing airplanes, jet setters.)

Don't be surprised if they get into the Matt Cassel sweepstakes in the off season. The Jets are not going to stand being second fiddle to the Giants.

The Franchise Tag will say hello, in that case.

The biggest mistake was getting Favre. In Favre's worst 7 games he has 4 td's and 13 picks for 6 loses. While other people didn't play well, Favre really killed the Jets in those games.

The Jets are not in a bad cap situation. Favre has $12 million coming to him next year but if he retires the Jets get a large amount of cap space.

Trading for Jenkins was a great move. He dominated until the Denver game and was pretty much unstoppable. No one knows the truth but the reports from the beat writers are that he's more hurt then anyone is admitting. I don't think he's out of shape, but I do think playing the 3-4 NT did wear on him. Players like Wilfork, Hampton and Jamal Williams are used to the position but it's so different then playing DT in the 4-3.

Pace is a real good player. He's not great at anything but he can cover, rush the passer and stop the run. They did overpay for him but he's been very good for the Jets.

Faneca and Woody did stabilize the offensive line. Woody has been great at RT not only as a run blocker but also as a pass blocker. Faneca has made Brick and Mangold much better. His pass blocking has been average but his run blocking has been great. Faneca is definetely not a great lineman anymore but he's still good.

The Jets had 4 huge holes on their team last year. They had a ton of cap room and they were able to fill the LG, RT, NT and OLB positions. I don't consider it desperate, it was smart.

They've drafted extremely well with the exception of Gholston. They have a very good core of young players in Leon Washington, Cotchery, Stuckey, Keller, Brick, Mangold, Harris, Revis, Rhodes and Lowery.

While all of you hate Mangini and I understand where your coming from, he has won 10 and 9 or 10 games in 2 of his first three seasons. Most of the Jets fans want him fired which is the typical Jets fans reaction.

The Jets need to find a QB, whether that's Ratliff, Clemens, Ainge or someone they draft. They need to add speed at WR and on the defense.

While I'm happy with the direction of where the Jets are going, I know that the Pats are still the best all around organization in football. You guys got killed with injuries and still manage to be a very good team this year. If Brady comes back healthy and you get 5 picks in the first three rounds the Pats will be even better next year.

I agree with a lot of your post, and even the quoted section above, to an extent. Jenkins, when healthy, can dominate at the most important position in a 3-4. That said, injuries are part of what you're getting with him. Although he played in all 16 games in 2006 and 2007 (after playing 5 total in 2004 and 2005), it was pretty widely known that he was an injury risk before this season. I still like the signing for the Jets, but you can't really ignore the injuries when you evaluate it.

Yeah it is realistic that you won't get 16 full games from him. I still like the trade since they only gave up a 3rd and a 5th. No way they would have gotten anything like him in the draft. The Jets definitely have work to do but I think with a QB who doesn't turn the ball over they would have won against against Oakland, SF and Seattle.

But that's the problem with Favre. You live and die with him. He can make a coach look great or horrible.

We must be watching different Jets teams, because I've seen a very unimpressive Woody and Ferguson, just to name a couple of players we seem to disagree about.

Also, the Jets are right about at $128 million for next season with Favre so, even without him, they'll be looking at $115 million. The cap is projected to be at about $123 million. In other words, the Jets cap situation sucks (although there does appear to be some dead weight that can be cut loose if needed), at least according to the following site:

New York Jets Salary Cap

What a travesty if they miss the playoffs after that offseason splurge. I hope Favre is back next year crushing their cap and playoff hopes again.

Its a win win for the Pats really whether Favre decides to call it quits or come back another year. He's an average to good QB at best and will cost the Jets big money if he returns another year, if he goes the Jets likely starter for next season will be Kellen Clemens, good luck with that.
