While the defensive schemes may have something to do with it, another contributing factor may be the bum shoulder Vrabel’s been playing with. According to a source familiar with the situation, the shoulder is bad enough that surgery could be an option after the season.
Wonder if the injuries true and how long hes been playing through it.

From the Globe: "The New England Patriots are recovering from collective surgery. In an NFL first, the New England Patriots underwent team surgery to correct a variety of ailments ranging from torn ligament and damaged tendons to broken bones, and is said to be recovering well. According to head coach Bill Belichick, "We didn't have anybody left to play football games, so we just went and got surgery done on the team. I don't know the details, I'm not a doctor, but the whole team is day-to-day. We may have to find a way to beat the Dolphins with our practice squad." In an unusual twist on past injury report shenanigans, the Patriots are listed as doubtful for Sunday's game, with a hurt everything.

I guess all you wankers complaining about Vrabes need to line up for Nelson's spanking.

Does anyone know which shoulder? It could be a factor in why Vrabel is playing on a different side of the defense perhaps? I imagine he'd want the injured shoulder on the outside so its not as exposed to the offensive lineman when setting the edge and rushing the passer.
Nelson's right about Vrabel setting the edge, he's money when it comes to that. Sure, I wish the pass rush was getting more production, but Jarvis Green is in the same boat right now. We expect sacks from both of those guys, I'm sure there's plenty of other factors involved.

I read a while back, and have posted thusly, that his shoulder injury was why he switched sides. I guess it's better for him to be on the field, even less effective, than not. I expect we'll seem him back next year and playing again at a higher level.
