Default Game plan for the Bills

It's like being married. The Pats pissed me off so much last week I wanted nothing to do with them. NOTHING. Then I watched a little Globe 10.0, a little Felger on Comcast SPorts, and tonight I watched the whole NE Tailgate. Guess I've made up. I just can't stay mad at the Pats, but I do wish they'd tossed downfield more and attacked the Colt's weakness.

So ......

Looks like we will be without Jordan or Morris, so it seems to be the same cast of characters.

For the Bills, I'm hoping that JM learned from his mistake and will go deep. I know the Bills defensive backfield is in better shape than the Colts was last week, but I still believe Cassel can hit the throw.

I assume all you guys who were so enraptured with last weeks game plan that you called it perfect, and went beserk when I said it could have been a lot better are not ready to switch sides yet? You all still think not going deep is the way to go?

Careful, the crazies here will soon brand you as irrational and not credible for daring to criticize their OC God in any way. They will also question your patriotism and then brand you a commie.

Remember, in bizarro world it was a perfect game plan to call a draw play on a 2-pt conversion against a small fast D, and to only go deep once all game against a horrible secondary.

The Jets' Kris Jenkins was able to collapse the middle of Bills' offensive line. The result was no hols for Buffalo's running game; Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson combined for only 31 yards on 16 carries. Would love to see Wilfork do the same, and put Edwards and the Bills in to predictable plats. With Josh Reed out, the Pats should have two backs on Lee Evans at all times. If the Bills are going to beat the Pats on a pass, force them to go to James Hardy or Roscoe Parrish.

Offensively, keep it balanced. Go after the replacements to players out with injuries (CB Ashton Youboty, SS Donte Whitner, DE Aaron Schobel) and also LB Kawika Mitchell, who will play on a bum ankle. Force their backups to come up with plays. With Schobel out, let's see if Cassel has enough time to throw a couple of deep balls off a play action early on the backups in the Bills' secondary.

This board definantly has homer issues, as any board does. But did you not watch the game? They were just waiting for that deep pass. Do you guys really think you see more than an OC?

I'd like to see Faulk and Welker matched up against Mitchell.

The one time they threw deep Gafney had beaten the coverage. The Colts had only 3 CBs dressed and one was on the street three days earlier. In that situation, it is dumb not to test out that secondary. Every long pass doesn't have to be good. But the threat of a long ball opens up the short stuff. Even if it doesn't work.

That's why you keep running the ball even if you only get 2 yards a pop. The threat of a run keeps the defense for keying on passes.

You HAVE to have a balance. A one dimensional team in today's NFL is a losing team.

It was one thing weeks 1-4 when Cassel was getting the feel of the pocket, etc. He has shown he can throw down field, and if we go into the Bills game with the same plan the result will be the same.

I know Mo has the quick answer of you can't go downfield every time, but I'm not suggesting that. I'm saying you need a balance.

As far as seeing more than an OC, what do you need to see not to try to run a draw against the fastest defense in the NFL. They have a light fast line, we have big heavy line and runner and blockers.

Sometimes OCs outsmart themselves. "They'll never expect this." No, JM, they won't. They don't think anyone would be so stupid as to run that.

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. If you never make any mistakes, you are playing too safe and need to find the limits of what you can do.

But you need to learn from mistakes. That's why I'm hoping JM is smarter that you give him credit for. I'm hoping he will review and see what worked and what didn't and figure out why.

And do something different.

Shoot, I'm homer central. Have you rad any of my posts. To me, the Pats have done nothing wrong in years. The players they let go weren't that good. They keep what they need.

I approved of shipping our Meion Branch and who needs Asante and his big money demands. He isn't doing that good in Philly anyway.

But even though all our draft picks and UDFA signings are top notch and the FAs we sign are perfect signings, I have to say that we should have won the superbowl and we should have beaten the Colts, and for the same reason: unwillingness or inability to make in-game adjustments. That is how we won earlier this decade.
