Default Maroney's future here?

I wanted to bring this up even before this IR news.
I had always thought he was under-utilized as a receiver out of the backfield.
If Faulk was at the end of his career, I could have seen Maroney as a possible 3rd down back in the future, but Faulk, to me, seems to have something left in the tank. I expect Faulk to be back next year, so, where will that leave Maroney?
What's he got, 1 more year under contract?
Thoughts?

55 yards per game
16 missed games as a starter (50%)

Move on, or be moved on.

Mike Reiss said it best on WBCN. He will come back next year and compete for the starting job. He has too much talent and low salary not to be given one more chance. He will not be given the starting job and the Pats will either bring in a veteran or a high draft pick to compete for the starting job, but Maroney won't be on the outs going into camp next season.

55 yards in a RB committee a game in a primarily passing offense. Thats not too bad.

A 3rd down back is required to pick up blitzers and to block.

However, Maroney is an inexpensive #4 back. And he has two more years left on his contract.

I dont understand how fans think that a player getting injured is a character flaw.

Maroney's shoulder is so severely injured that it would be so long before he could be back that he had to go on IR for the season.
That is not the type of injury that you can chose to play or not play with.

Gee, maybe we should call Brady a ******* because he isn't trying to rehab and be back by December? Its really the same thing.

Maroney will come to camp next year (assuming he is 100%) the same guy who came this year, one year older.
To think the BB was happy with Maroney as the starter before the injury but niow has changed his entire opinion is the reactionary, unthinking stuff this board has built such a storied reputation with.

Of course there will be competition in camp, just like there is at every other position.

i say we cut him after training camp before we can see what he can do, like Chad Jackson.

We saw what Chad Jackson can do, that was the problem.
Apparently the rest of the NFL did too, and thats why he isnt 'doing' anywhere else.
