Default Furure DL depth

Everyone talks about how the Patriots need younger LB's, CB's and S's, but does anyone else think we could use a fourth 3-4 lineman? Obviously Green is an awesome backup with great 4-3/pass rushing ability, but a lot of our weakness on defense looks to be from the DL... especially when they're on the field a lot, tiring.

Some people think we need a S next year as our first defensive pick. Doesn't it make sense to have a starting calibur DL to spell Seymour, Warren and even Wilfork (and perhaps even replace Seymour)? I know that 300lb DE's are hard to come by, but should Bioli put some effort into it? Was that their plan for a fourth round pick in Kareem Brown that ended up going horribly wrong?

A scenario where Seymour COMES OFF THE BENCH to spell all three DL positions appeals to me, even at the amount he is getting paid.

Edit: Obviously meant Future DL depth

There has been some thought in that direction: 2009 Preview - Where's the talent?

You cannot compare seymour to straight up to ty warren.seymour lines up on the strong side with the left tackle and left gaurd.2 better Lineman in most teams. Also, most runs come on the left side for the same reason. if you are going to find a DL on the strong side he has to be better than warren .

i am sure you have a list i am willing to listen to.

No offense, but you're starting to get a little off track already. You have a great point (and I have no list BTW, as I said a good 300lb DE is hard to come by), but I was mainly weighing the importance of a new starting Safety as opposed to a new starting DL.

Is it just a matter of never being able to find able personel to fulfill BB's requirements for his front seven in the 3-4? This was the major topic for years until we found Mayo for an ILB spot.

Lots of ILB's who were drafted over the past 3 years could be doing great in the Patriots defense.

I agree, David Harris comes to mind. Just because we didn't draft a LB over the years, doesent mean there were non available.
