Looking around, I think Gonzalez is the best thing out there. Kitna might make an ok back-up plan for next year too if they want to give O'Connell more time.
Gonzalez is a solid player, probably a better blocker and would put us back on the board as a 3TE team, which could help our run game. Using a "big guy" who isn't a passing threat as a 3rd TE doesn't hide anything from the opponent.
I think it's a nice move for him too. He wants to play for a contender and no matter how this year goes, next year we are precisely that.
So if I had to bet on a last minute trade, I'd say Tony Gonzalez is the best thing out there.
Quote:
Rookie fullback Mike Cox, who won the starting job in training camp, said all the rookies have tried to take a lesson from Gonzalez's commitment to excellence.
"Tony's always out there before practice running his routes, doing them on the sideline," Cox said. "He's run those routes thousands of times, but he's still out there. It kind of blew me away when I first saw it."
When the defense is practicing and the offense is resting, Gonzalez often asks Cox to throw to him.
"Here's a guy who's already punched his ticket to the Hall of Fame and he's still doing all this. Here I am a rookie, and I haven't accomplished anything in this game yet," Cox said. "It makes me push myself. He's the best tight end who ever played the game and he's out there working harder than anyone.
"I remember I dropped a pass during practice one day. He said, 'I saw that drop. We'd better stay after practice and catch some extra balls.' So we went out there and he ran the route with me about 10 times to show me how to do it," Cox said. "He's a great leader for us by what he does and by what he says.
Worth a third? I really think so.
Anyway, that's my take. For discussion, if you had to figure Pioli is on the phone today, who do you think he's talking to?
Word is the Lions will trade just about anyone on their team right now. Any good O-Linemen or CB's over there?

Although this team needs a quarterback with talent,an OL who does not become the b!tch of the defensive lineman standing in front of him and a CB who actually can avoid playing 10 yards off the receiver, I still think this team makes no moves and just goes along in this season as is

We won't be making any trades but if we did I'd probably be selling a few guys rather than buying. I'm rooting for the team but this is destined to be a lost season, if someone were paying full value for a Cassel, Maroney, etc, I'm selling. But we've got what we've got and I believe it'll be the same tomorrow.

Playing 10 yards off the receiver has nothing to do with the player and everything to do with the system. Maybe we should trade for a new system.

LOL - I've actually been impressed with Deltha's catch up speed. I think the way he's being asked to play plus misreads by the safety are making him look bad. For good or ill, I don't think he's much lower in skill than Hobbs.

I agree. The Safety help has been the bigger issue this year. I am not a Hobbs fan but he isn't bad with a little help. O'Neal has saved a win for us and has not been that bad either. He has been beat but so has every other meember of that defense. It's the idea of the Safety to play Safety. I think our new DB coach has been no better than the last.

If the Kittens can't move Kitna, they're apparently planning to put him on IR. He won't be available for several weeks anyways, so I don't see any point in making that trade now.

I wouldn't gripe too much if it happened, although I might bemoan the move next April.
