No team with a HOF/All Pro starting QB has a backup who can come in and lead them to the Super Bowl if they lose that QB for the season. The team is built around Brady. The OL is built for his pocket presence and quick release. The defense is built to play with a lead.

Cassel has done what his job was. He held down the fort while Brady missed a few games. No one would have complaints if Tom was coming back next week and the team was 3-2.

Unfortunately, Brady's season ending injury changed his job.

And there it is right there, something I failed to mention before. Cassel or any back up is meant to hold the fort until the number 1 guy comes back.

Yes and IMO, he is doing the best he can and do the best of the coaches ability to salvage a hurt season and team.

I have never said that Cassel will replace Brady, but he is doing the best he can based upon what we see on TV and what we read on here and thru the various sports new outlets.

Why is no one asking the question of how supposedly knowledgable fans can ignore the fact that even if Tom Brady were playing, and our Defense was giving up 30+ points, we might well still be 3-2?

It is rediculous. It was almost cute watching Cassel struggle to play during the preseason when Brady was healthy. The fact that he was still on the team was ignored because Tom was healthy and we were winning games.

As long as the ship was afloat and running strong, no one noticed the set of floaties that were in the closet in case the ship went down. Well, guess what...
Hey I guess you haven't been paying attention...jamoke..loud mouth with nothing upstairs..go follow a team like the raiders..maybe you will feel better...hopefully bandwagon fans and the like will be gone.. BYE!!!

There are 3 kinds of fans:

1. Bandwagon fans.
2. Blind, drunk on Kool Aid fans.
3. Intelligent fans, that though they are loyal to their team, they will not hesitate to question the decisions made by the leaders done in the best interests of the team.

I am 3. You are 2.

PS I have been paying attention. Cassel sucks.

Ummm.... There is a fourth kind of fans.... The ones who overreact with every loss and start to pointing at individual players and coaches for a system-wide loss.

Questioning decisions does not make you an intelligent fan. Some of the most ignorant fans on this board question decisions of this team. They are the anti-version of the die-hard Kool-Aid Drinkers and are usually less rational in their arguments.

I agree. However, I think if you look at Cassel's body of work, it is clear he cannot make down field reads. Take away the stuff he can do (short passes), and his ability to lead this team is neutralized.

He may improve (and I stress MAY), but it will be at the expense of the 2008 season. And Brady will be back. So, unless Bill is planning on essentially preping a backup for TB in 2009, the decision to go with Cassel to lead us in 2008 is questionable, at best. Hell, even Madden was commenting about his ability to see down field ("80 percent of his passes are within 10 yards").

Hate to break it to ya...it is possible that BB/SP made a mistake.
