Default A Fun Exercise - Predictions for the First Game?

I, for one, cannot wait for all this roster crap to go by the way side for a real game!! What do you think the Pats will do for the first game? I assume Brady will play (if not, I guess all bets are off).

Do you think they will defer if they win the coin toss? Answer - I know BB said he would, but with the way opposing offenses have been marching off 10 minute drives against us to start the (preseason) games, I think he might take the kickoff and try to score first.

Do you think they will run the ball more and try to protect Brady? Or will they go to the aerial attack and try to run up the score early in order to pull Brady late in the game? Answer - this one's harder. On the one hand, I think they'll go right back to the aerial attack, esp. against a perceived weak opponent, perhaps to show everyone that we will be just as formidable this year. On the other hand, they did seem to be trying to establish a committee running attack in preseason. For the first game I think they will start out with a little running, then go to the aerial attack and hope they can put up a good amount of points. Brady hasn't even played so it will be tough for him to go a whole game. Score early and often and hope the D can finally stop someone will be the plan for this game so they can take Brady out in the 4th quarter and then let Cassell hand it off, probably to Lamont Jordan. I think the ball control offense will come later in the season.

How do you think the O Line will do? I guess my answer above will change if Brady is getting hammered! The O line looked a little better last week with Matt Light back in, and Brady does a much better job than Cassell of stepping up into the pocket to throw quickly. I think Brady will be okay and will rely a lot on Welker and other short passing routes if things get bad.

What do you think of LoMo? He has been a disappointment to me. I know the O-line hasn't been great, but he looked to be doing the same things he did a lot last year and the year before - running straight ahead and if anyone is there, getting dropped quickly. He doesn't run with any imagination, IMO. I hope he is better this year, but I like the addition of Lamont Jordan to help him out. Sammy Morris seemed sort of invisible to me during camp.

What say you?

Pats play a hideously boring game and lose. Not sure if Brady starts, if he does he comes out after a quarter with a sprained foot.

The defense is atrocious and gets picked apart.

Yes, I'm a little bit of a negative Nancy, but that's what I thinik.

Wheatley: Pick Six
O'Neal: Pick in sub package.
Brady: for three TD's - Moss, Gaffney, Evans
Jordan: Rushing TD from inside the 30.

2 three-and-out's, some mental errors from the D that allow KC to score one TD and three FG's.

Crable: for two Passes defended
Mayo: one sack
Bru: one sack
Vrabel: two sacks

Yep, a lot of sacks. That pressure makes the picks happen.

I want a cookie if I'm even close!

Pats first offensive play: Play-action pass deep to Moss on a post route. This is so painfully obvious I wouldn't even call it a prediction.

I see them up something like 28-14 heading into the fourth quarter (maybe a little closer, maybe a little wider margin) and just running the ball for the rest of the game. They win by 10-17 points, but there will be some ugly patches. I think it will be a lot like Buffalo opener a few years ago, with the strip sack for TD given up on the very first play. A bunch of ugly plays, but they will do plenty to win. I think they'll bring their B- game.

Honestly at this point we don't even really know who's playing yet. I'm pretty confident Brady will play but it's not guaranteed.

Anyway, assuming Brady plays, I'd say 28-20 NE. Our defense hasn't looked spectacular but I do think we'll make some plays in the red zone to either hold them to field goals or get some turnovers. On the other side of the ball, I don't have much confidence that we'll go out and score 38 again in the first week (few weeks for that matter) again. Brady hasn't played all preseason, I know that doesn't mean he's going to go out and throw 4 INT's, but I don't think he'll be passing for 5 Td's this game either. The other reason for the low score, I think we'll run it more and play more of a time of possession and field position game.

Although, I could be absolutely wrong, that's just my opinion. Haha.
