Default Why Randy Cross?

Now that preseason's over and we're (mostly) free of him for another year, I figure it's safe to ask why this guy is part of the TV team for the Pats' preseason games. IIRC, he played for San Fran. Is he originally from New England or something?

Unfortunately I will probably still have to listen to him call some regular season games this year, since I can't get Boston radio where I live. (Go figure!) I did try that NFL Field Pass deal last year, but the Internet feed lags several seconds behind the TV so it's kinda pointless.

Anyway, Cross isn't the worst out there, but he's close. He's barely competent and often says things that have you thinking, "Huh?"

i like him cause he seems like a nice guy, but damn is his voice annoying to listen to for an entire game.

we usually get him on the regular season once a year.

Phill Simms is the way to go.

I feel the same way about his pre-season coverage for the Pats, and I used to hate him as well. That is until I got Sirius and he is like a whole other person on the radio. I also think his regular season broadcasting is better as well. IMO, I don't think he prepares for the pre-season games at all, which leads to a lot of his idiotic statements that are factually wrong.

BTW he is originally from California. Not sure how he got the Pats gig.

After listening to the NFLN's 3 clowns, I have no problem with Randy Cross.

I'd second that but Simms is making big money as an annaouncer. Say what you want ,i like the offbeat announcers that make the game and players real. Thats why I liked Jerry Waizzname??? He remined me of the Celtic great Johny Most.

His comment that the NFL stands for Not For Long... was most apt. He told you things about the players and their play from the stance of a "good Ol' Boy" but backed up by Head Coaching experience.

He mighty be corny but so was Johnny Most. I liked him when he did it before Randy Cross.

Jerry Glanville. Yeah, I liked his stuff too. Also, i agree that Cross is a whole lot better on the regular season games than pre-season.

My problem with radio is the lag I have between WBLM up here ion Maine and the HD broadcast on ComCast. There is a least a 5-second delay between the action on the TV and the play calling on the radio. I'd have no problems listening to the radio calls if I could find a way to synch things up.

Respects,

Randy Cross is really good. He is one of the better announcers at mixing actual football knowledge with the ridiculous hyperbole some of them rely on and does it all without being a douchebag or a yahoo for a particular player (Madden ♥'s Favre)

I don't get how anyone could dislike Cross as an announcer. Maybe it's the suck bleeding out of Don Criqui that makes him seem worse?

Compared to those 3 wastes of protoplasm, Randy Cross sounds like Hank Stram when he & Jack Buck did MNF games on radio.

Sterling Sharpe (on play-by-play!), Marshall Faulk & Deion Sanders now comprise the worst crew to ever broadcast a sporting event in the history of the United States of America. What a complete effin disgrace.

Like I said in another thread, i would love to do this, but i can't synch my ComCast cable HD image with the radio. the radio has a 5-7 second delay and it drives me nuts trying to watch the game that way. Gino has a MUCH better commentary than anything TV has, but when it's delayed like that, it's hard to use.
