Default 2012 Snap Counts

Cool interactive feature on Football Outsiders. You can sort by team, position, offensive snaps, defensive snaps, special team snaps, etc.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | 2012 NFL SNAP COUNTS

Some trivia, for example:

- Donald Thomas had more offensive snaps than Aaron Hernandez, or any running back.

- After McCourty, Ninkovich, Wilfork and Mayo, can you guess which players had the next most defensive snaps?

Yes, we should appreciate the contribution of depth players like THomas and Arrington.

I don't know if we 'appreciate' Arrington for playing a lot and playing poorly.

Interesting point: as a rookie, Nate Ebner finished second on the team in ST snaps behind only Niko Koutovides.

If he keeps doing that, he'll more than justify the late 6 the Pats used on him. . . . and imagine if he can become a contributor on the D.

I don't think you will ever see him on defense, but he could be Slater 2.0

Ebner has all the physical tools to be a great safety, he's very raw as a DB but if he develops into a starting safety he could be great. He has already lived up to his draft position as a Special Teamer.

I'm not a big fan of these ST only picks. To me they seem like spots you should use on development talent.

Just don't see Ebner filling that role. He screams career ST

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.

But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.

Sorry dude but you are waaay off base.

1) Most late 6th round picks do not even make the roster. A guy who can be a 10 year special teams ace is certainly worth that pick.
2) Ebner is the definition of developmental talent. Excellent H/W/S athlete with little football background. Would you rather have an inferior athletic prospect who's a "real safety"?

Physically speaking, his Pro Day numbers are to safeties what Connor Barwin's were to linebackers.

Five of these are the top five safeties selected in the 2012 draft. The sixth is Ebner.
