I'm going to skip over everything else that makes this whole post ridiculous and just point out that you can't cut free agents.

Side note: Arrington is a good football player, he's just not a #2, outside-the-hashes corner. When pressed into that role, he sucks. Not because he's a bad football player, but because it demands that he do things that he can't do well. He's #4 corner who can adequately cover slot receivers, as well as an ace special teamer.

The fact that the Pats have been so badly miscasting him for so long says a whole lot more about the atrocious depth at corner than it does about Arrington as a player.

Chung, on the other hand, is just bad. Maybe he'd be a fine STer, but he can't play safety, and someone else is going to give him safety money because they're dumb. I'm positive that the Pats will let them, and won't mind seeing him leave one bit.

I absolutely agree regarding Arrington. It's well known that he is much better in a tighter window of coverage, and starts to show fault on the outside significantly. I think that he is another example of many of the pieces falling into place with the scheme that a guy like Talib (not necessarily Talib) allowed them to play.

Here is just one of the recent articles from the past month or so stating this same opinion that Arrington really came on in the slot/star position.

I think that Arrington is actually a candidate for retainment here, due to this reasoning, and the fact that he also can play some spots in the outside starting role (albeit less effectively) should the need come down to it. He has significant knowledge of the system here, and has pretty much been an overachiever since being selected as a UDFA. He also offers a very nice special teams presence, which should never be overlooked. On top of that, I think that he comes a lot cheaper than anyone was initially thinking at the beginning of the season. We aren't going to field all-stars at every position, so these kinds of moves are certainly important for the team. If Arrington is able to be upgraded and simply ends up as a depth player, that's fine too, but in the meantime we shouldn't overlook the possibility.

Pretty much how i see it. i thought he was a good pick with a great deal of potential and i am surprised he has gone downhill over time. Probably a matter of both confidence and a bad fit in the system. i wouldn't be surprised if he went elsewhere and performed better than he had because he is still young and has talent, but NE is not a good fit for him and unless he wants to come back o n the cheap i don't see a return.
