I think it is safe to say the Patriots are the best coached team in the NFL. They're all schooled in scheme, fundamentals and their overall football IQ's are better than 98% of their opponents.
John Harbaugh
Jim Harbaugh
Pete Carroll
Tom Coughlin
Mike Tomlin
Rex Ryan
Chain Gaily
Eric Mangini
Ken Whisenhunt
Looking at that list I'd say the two Harbaugh's, Tomlin, Coughlin, Carroll all easily in the top 10 coaches in the NFL today. Whisenhunt IMO got a raw deal in Arizona and was a really good head coach that took his team to the SB in 2008. Then you have Eric Mangini who was under BB and 2 division rivals who match up against us frequently.
IMO we lose when we face teams that can eliminate that coaching and intelligence gap. That's when it comes down to pure talent and winning 1 on 1 battles.
We have Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez on offense and Vince Wilfork and Chandler Jones on defense as players whom I would consider to be able to win their 1 on 1 match against anybody in the NFL. On Sunday we were without 2 of the 4 and that is what cost us the game..
That is why I think we need to focus on adding 1-2 physical freaks who can go out and beat any scheme or game plan. We may of gotten off to a good start with Armstead yesterday for the defensive side.
I don't understand.
You listed the teams that beat a team that wins more games than any other and find that 4 of 9 (Harbaughx2, Tomlin, Coughlin) are good, 2 (Carroll, Ryan) are mediocre and 3 have been fired and are unemployed, and you conclude that based upon your assumption that we have clearly the best coach in the league we lose because that collection of overall averageness leveled the field?
Did you think this post through?
I think physicality is the biggest issue not just talent. We have a few guys that can match up in a fight otherwise its mostly finesse.
This is a bunch of crap. What is finesse about this team? We have a great QB so we throw the ball well. That does not equal finesse.
We ran the ball the 2nd most times in the NFL.
We play 2 gap defense and have the largest LBs and front 7 in the NFL.
This is 2013 not 1973. Every team throws and throws a lot. A passing team is not a finesse team, and the one that runs the ball the 2nd most times surely isnt either.

The way how physical teams like the 49ers, ravens, giants, and cardinals manhandle the offense.
It's how creeps like richard sherman, pollard, suggs. and bart scott trash talk the brady and the offense.
Willingness to take a few personal foul flags for one

The Patriots have been overachievers the past two years. It doesn't have the talent to compensate for injuries, and it wins so much because it puts in 99% effort in the regular season and plays with terrific schemes to mask its deficiencies.
But in the playoffs a good team at 99% will not beat emotional, talented teams that play at 100%. It's what happened against the Giants in 2011 and the Ravens in 2012.

They scored 35 on the 49ers. They scored 30 in the reg season vs the Ravens. They put up 428 yards Sunday. In what universe where they 'manhandled'?
I'm sure it makes you feel like a big tough guy to question the manliness of the team because they didn't give you that win you were entitled to, but seriously, grow up.

The patriots didn't score anything until justin smith got hurt and he's their best pass rusher .
They smacked the offense around all day.....

I'm not the one questioning their manliness, i just said what the perception is.
You think that 15 yard penalties are a good thing? Let me guess, because you think NFL players get scared if you hit hard, right?
Hernandez doesn't get alligator arms?
Welker doesn't drop balls after getting pummeled three plays before?
Ridley doesn't get K'O'd?
Pat Chung didn't take out Hakeem Nicks in the Superbowl?
Edelman doesn't get concussed and knocked out by Landry?
Woodhead doesn't get concussed?
Ed Reed didn't get rendered ineffective when he was too busy looking around for Hines Ward?
You are quite literally the only person I've seen who is saying the Pats didnt get roughed up or that hitting hard is meaningless.

Where did I say hitting hard is meaningless? I said players aren't afraid of being hit.
The Patriots were not close to 'roughed up'. They took a couple of hard hits, which is part of football, like the one Mayo delivered on Pitta(?).
Taking 15 yard penalties is stupid.
