For the longest time Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his coaching staff have had to come up with ways to help their offense deal with Darrelle Revis when he was a member of the New York Jets.
Now after finally getting him on his side, Belichick's apparently been pretty pleased with what he's seen.
During his meeting with the media on Thursday he had some kind remarks for the veteran cornerback, telling reporters he's enjoyed finally having the opportunity to have a personal relationship with him.
“He has worked hard. Smart guy. I’ve been impressed with him," said Belichick. "[He's] very professional. Has a good understanding of the game. He’s a smart player. He has a real good focus and instinct. He’s a smart player scheme-wise, but he knows how to play. He’s a very instinctive player. On a personal level, I never really had a personal relationship with him. So I’ve enjoyed that part of it.”
So far he's been a quiet leader and someone players have gravitated toward on the defensive side of the football and seems to be fitting in quite well.
Friday Tom Brady also talked about what it's been like going up against Revis, with the quarterback saying on Friday that he enjoys going against someone of his caliber.
"He’s a great player," said Brady. "He challenges us, he challenges the receivers, and it’s nice to go against someone like that."
The good news is if Brady can be competitive against Revis, it will make going against the rest of the league a little easier heading into this season. So far like his coach, he's enjoyed having Revis as a teammate.
"We’ve had great corners here in the past, but he’s a great competitor," said Brady. "Having the chance to compete against him on another team, I certainly appreciate having him on our team."
