Satisfying and illuminating article by Ian. It's hard to argue with Belichick's decisions regarding ball security.
He knows what he's doing of course. But just imagine as in "4th and 2" if there had been a gamble... given Ridley's average gain per rush in the 3rd and 4th quarters, you can wonder what would have happened if he had allowed Ridley to spell BJGE sometime in the second half of the SB. At that point it was obvious that the Giants' defense was keeping it close. Would Ridley's explosiveness have created some extra yards for NE on one or two drives or at least kept the Giants a bit more off-balance? Could Fears have coached Ridley up fast enough to create enough awareness of increased ball security? Would that famous attempt to Welker have happened if Ridley was in the backfield to get the ball dumped off to him? Etc., etc.
