Wilhite Not Victim Of Home Invasion

The Providence Journal reported on Tuesday that defensive back Jonathan Wilhite was not a victim of a home invasion, but instead injured his groin while running to a nearby Cumberland Farms store to call police after there were two suspicious men in his driveway. Here is the statement:

“On Sunday, September 27, 2009, the North Attleboro Police responded to the Cumberland Farms store in the Attleboro Falls area of town, after receiving a call from Jonathan Wilhite concerning suspicious activity. Mr. Wilhite stated that 2 subjects were in his parking lot when he arrived home, and one approached him on foot and yelled at him.

“Mr. Wilhite became concerned and ran to Cumberland Farms where he asked the clerk to call police. He did mention that he had pulled his groin while he was running. The matter remains under investigation by North Attleboro Detectives.”

The groin injury kept Wilhite out of Sunday’s win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Junior Seau Trampled in Bull Riding Incident

USA Today reported on Tuesday that former Patriots linebacker Junior Seau took in the Professional Bull Riders Tour last weekend, where he was reportedly run over by a bull and apparently got up with hardly any injuries.

According to the report Seau danced with a bull in the ring at an event in Ontario, Calif. (See the video after the jump.) Seau stood up to the bull as if he was approaching a line of scrimmage, and the bull plowed over him.

Twitter Costs Jets Clowney A Game

According to ProFootballTalk.com after the Jets win over the Patriots, Jets wide receiver David Clowney posted: “1 play in the 1st Half, 4 plays in the 2nd half . . . A bit disappointed about my playing time but very happy and satisfied about the win.”

Head coach Rex Ryan apparently found out about the comments, and then decided to bench Clowney completely for Sunday’s game against Tennessee.

One thing to point out was shortly after that Tweet he posted, “My team always comes first so I’ma just keep grinding . . . And we gonna keep winning.”

I didn’t think it was that bad, but they apparently really have to watch what they say. The Jets went on to beat the Titans without him 24-17.

DT Wilfork Has Sprained Ankle

The Boston Herald reported on Monday that Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork has been diagnosed with a sprained left ankle.

Wilfork left Sunday’s game with the injury and went to the locker room with just over 4:00 left in the half, and did walk off the field under his own power. Today in the locker room, teammate Mike Wright told Ian Rappaport of the Herald that he thought he accidentally stepped on Wilfork’s ankle.

A source with knowledge of Wilfork’s injury reportedly told the newspaper that the injury is “not expected to be long-term.”

After leaving the game, rookie Myron Pryor stepped in for Wilfork and played fairly well, making three tackles during the Patriots 26-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Patriots CB Wilhite Victim of Home Invasion

The Providence Journal reported on Monday that the reason that Patriots defensive back Jonathan Wilhite missed Sunday’s game was due to the fact he was a victim of an apparent home invasion.

According to the newspaper the cornerback was shaken up during an apparent invasion into his North Attleboro home, but luckily didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

Despite not being on the injury report all week, Wilhite was a surprise scratch for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. After the game when questioned by reporters head coach Bill Belichick tried to preserve the player’s privacy, by quickly saying that Wilhite “had an injury [Sunday] morning.”

His agent, Jason Chayut, told the newspaper Monday that the injury was “nothing serious” and “did not require hospitalization.”

Best wishes to Wilhite as I’m sure it was scary. Luckily there were no reports of any gunshots, or additional violence. Considering that Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins was killed after a similar incident where he was actually shot in the leg, we’re fortunate this wasn’t worse.

DL Adams Named Practice Player of the Week

Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal reported on Monday that Practice-squad defensive lineman Titus Adams walked into the locker room with the belt signifying his achievement reportedly slung over his shoulder after assistant coach Pepper Johnson had chosen him as practice player of the week.

Johnson runs the ’show’ team, meaning the team the Patriots offense practices again each week as they get set to take on each opponent. Defensive back Brandon McGowan achieved the honor last week.

LB Mayo Off Crutches

Chris Price of WEEI.com reported via Twitter a few moments ago that Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo was seen walking through the team’s locker room without crutches, a brace or a limp.

According to Price the 2nd-year linebacker politely declined an interview request, but the news is certainly encouraging as he continues to recover after injuring his knee in week one.
