Patriots shoot themselves and lose

This game can not be described in words other than the fact the Patriots shot themselves in the foot. For Pete’s sake, a 31 yard penalty was called on the Pats!

Beasts:

  • Wes Welker
    • With 2 touchdowns and 217 yards on the day, Wes did everything possible to help the Patriots
  • Rob Gronkowski
    • Gronk also had 2 touchdowns and 109 yards and like Welker, Gronk did everything possible to help the Patriots

Bums:

  • Ochocinco
    • Ochocinco no longer has it. He was quiet most of the game and then drops an easy touchdown.
  • The Pats Safities
    • James Sanders and Brandon Meriweather look like kings now…
  • Devin McCourty
    • I’m calling out Devin McCourty. He got beat consistently, he let a few bombs go his way, and then he tackles Fred Jackson at the 1 yard line which gives the offense no chance to come back. Not acceptable.
  • Benjarvus Green-Ellis
    • Green-Ellis was stuffed all day and did not hit any of the holes. Lawrence Maroney anyone?
  • Bill Belichick
    • “Bill Belichick the GM has let down Bill Belichick the coach”

Answers:

  • Will Devin McCourty show up?
    • Nope. Looked like Darius Butler was back
  • Is Fred Jackson going to be contained?
    • In the first half, he was pretty much stacked up. Second half was a whole different story
  • How will the Pats depleted secondary handle the red hot Ryan Fitzpatrick?
    • Not very good
  • With Aaron Hernandez out, will Ochocinco have a big game?
    • Welker had the big game, not Ochocinco
  • How many times will the Patriots bring the blitz?
    • Is ‘Grr’ an acceptable answer?

Thoughts:

  • The only good things to come out of this game are:
    • Welker is back and is fully healed
    • This quote on the Pats offense – “All these stocky white players look like an irish mob from Dorchester”
  • Terrific Tom was not very terrific
  • Ridley looked great and Green-Ellis looked like someone put the name Maroney on his jersey
  • We need Darren Sharper
  • The pass interference call in the 4th quarter when Josh Barret intercepted Fitzpatrick in the end zone was wrong (alot of choice words could go here)

Pats Pre Game Post: Hunting Buffalo

Game Info:

  • Played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, Orchard Park, NY
  • Starts at Sunday, September 25th, 1:00 EST
  • On CBS

Pats Injury Report:

  • Aaron Hernandez, MCL sprain
  • Taylor Price, hamstring
  • Patrick Chung, hand
  • Albert Haynesworth, back
  • Sebastian Vollmer, back
  • Mike Wright, concussion

Key Matchups:

  • Kyle Williams vs Dan Connolly
    • Kyle Williams is a athlete and Connolly has problems with athletic defensive lineman
  • Fred Jackson vs Pats d-line
    • Jackson currently leads the league in rush yards with 229 and an average of 6.5 per carry. Granted that was against a lost Kansas City team and a not so good Raiders team. The Pats have the 11th best rushing defense in the league currently, while KC is 25th and Oakland is 27th.
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick vs Pats secondary
    • Sergio Brown, Josh Barrett, James Ihedigbo, and Ross Ventrone are our safeties… Yeah, not a very good group with Chung out. McCourty can handle Stevie Johnson though, but yards after the catch was a big thing in the San Diego game and with these safeties…

Questions:

  • Will Devin McCourty show up?
  • Is Fred Jackson going to be contained?
  • How will the Pats depleted secondary handle the red hot Ryan Fitzpatrick?
  • With Aaron Hernandez out, will Ochocinco have a big game?
  • How many times will the Patriots bring the blitz?

Predictions:

  • Brady lights up the Bills secondary
  • Ryan Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson will wreck havoc in the 2rd half
  • Its going to be a head banging, high scoring game
  • Patriots 35, Bills 31

Post Game Recap: Patriots and Chargers

The Pats turned up the heat on the Chargers when they needed to and came up with the big win. The offense showed that the Miami game wasn’t a fluke and the defense came up with some big plays.

Beasts:

  • Tom Brady
    • Terrific Tom was terrific in a 423 yard game with 3 touchdowns and a QB rating of 135.7. There’s not much more I can say other than he was great
  • Vince Wilfork
    • Wilfork made an interception and provided constant pressure on the Chargers offensive line. James from NEPatriotsDraft said it perfectly – “Heck with Revis Island, give me Wilfork Peninsula”
  • Aaron Hernandez

Bums:

  • Devin McCourty
    • He was getting burned by Vincent Jackson all day. Granted Jackson is an elite talent, but McCourty should be doing better. He was having trouble finding the ball and allowed some pretty big plays to Jackson

Answers:

  • Can the Pats have an active pass rush?
    • Mark Anderson did get a sack… at the end of the game… Rivers did though have a man in his face all day long
  • How will McCourty react from the last game?
    • See above
  • Will Ochocinco show up big in this one?
    • Ocho had 2 big catches for 45 yards
  • How will the Pats defend Antonio Gates?
    • Gates was 0 for 1 and was covered all day
  • Will Chung have a big game?
    • When he went out with his injury, you could definitely see the impact he had, so yes he was a force

Thoughts:

  • Deion Branch was great in the short time plays at the end of the second quarter
  • Chad Ochocinco’s two players where very good catches
  • We now need another punter (possibly) and more safeties
  • The defense looked like another bend no break defense today
  • I was almost dead on with the score prediction
  • “The Patriots lead the NFL in players where they just make it happen”

Injury Report:

  • Ras-I Dowling
  • Kyle Arrington
  • Pat Chung
  • Zoltan Mesko

Other:

  • A gif of Wilfork’s interception is available here

Pats Pre Game Post: Bolting to a Win

Game Info:

  • Played at Gillette Stadium, Foxboro Mass
  • Starts at Sunday, September 19th, 4:15PM
  • On CBS

Pats Injury Report:

  • Dan Koppen, ankle
  • Mike Wright, concussion

Key Matchups:

  • Chargers Secondary vs Hernandez/Gronk
    • Hernandez and Gronk have the size advantage, but the Chargers are very physical
  • Pats CBs vs Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd
    • A group of big, physical wide receivers will show if Ras-I, Bodden, and McCourty can live up to their hype
  • Dan Connolly vs Antonio Garay
  • Antonio Gates vs Anyone
    • We had problems covering the Dolphin’s Anthony Fasano Monday night, so I wonder first off who covers him and then how they do it

Questions:

  • Can the Pats have an active pass rush?
  • How will McCourty react from the last game?
  • Will Ochocinco show up big in this one?
  • How will the Pats defend Antonio Gates?
  • Will Chung have a big game?

Predictions:

  • Danny Woodhead has a field day
  • The score will not tell the story
  • Defense will be lacking
  • Patriots 34, Chargers 24

A Look at the Roster Cuts and Releases

After a wild day of players being cut from teams all over the league, I have attempted to compile a list of all the players the Patriots have cut or released this offseason. If any players are missing, please comment so I can add them.

  • Marcus Cannon, OL

Cuts:

  • Jonathan Crompton, QB

    • He is moving to the practice squad
  • Sammy Morris, RB
    • Even though Morris did everything right there just wasn’t any room for him. I wish Morris the best

    • Tate could never get it together (like another player with the first name Brandon..)

  • Jeremy Ross, WR
  • Tyree Barnes, WR
  • Tiquan Underwood, WR
  • Alge Crumpler, TE

  • James Dearth, LS
  • Matt Katula, LS
  • Aaron Lavarias, DE
  • Clay Nurse, DL
  • Darryl Richard, DL
    • Another player cut because there was no room, Richard should be picked up by another team soon with his strong camp this offseason
  • Eric Moore, DE
    • Moore made my 53 man roster so this cut came as a surprise.
  • Aaron Lavarlas, DL
  • Gerard Warren, DL
  • Kade Weston, DL
  • Landon Cohen, DL
  • Marcus Stroud, DL
  • Steve Williams, DL
  • Ryan Coulson, DE
  • Markell Carter, DE
    • I was on the Carter Train this offseason, but the switch from 3-4 to 4-3 hurt him and thus he isn’t with us anymore
  • Ty Warren, DE

  • Anthony Leonard, LB
  • Christian Cox, LB
  • Niki Koutouvides, LB
  • Ricky Brown, LB
  • Tully Banta-Cain, OLB

  • Thad Turner, CB
  • Tony Cater, CB

    • I could go days ranting about Meriweather and Darius Butler…
  • Bret Lockett, S
    • Multiple news organizations say he will be put on IR once he clears waivers
  • James Sanders, S
    • Not a flashy or special player, Sanders was an above average player
