Pats Lions Thoughts

Studs of the Game:

  • Wes Welker
  • Aaron Hernandez
  • Danny Woodhead

Duds of the Game:

  • Secondary
    • PatriotsInsider from Twitter made note that “starting DBs are in the game. That’s the 3rd string Detroit offense scoring on them”. Arrington couldn’t cover a rock, McCourty was getting burned, and Butler was average.
  • Offensive Line
    • Tom Brady was hit, hit, and hit even more. Not a good day for the line.
  • Refs
    • I could swear the refs where wearing Lions uniforms out there

Players Who Helped Themselves:

  • Julian Edelman
    • Mike Petraglia called Edelman a “one-man attitude adjustment for the Patriots”
  • Mathew Slater
    • Slater didn’t hurt his chances and he did have a good catch, so in a game which had a lot of duds, Slater look good (shutters)

Players Who Didn’t Help Themselves:

  • Darius Butler
  • Kyle Arrington
    • Couldn’t cover a rock
  • Devin McCourty
  • Nate Solder
  • Sebastian Volmer
  • Chad Ochocinco
    • I keep hearing Joey Galloway’s name come up in the same breath as Ochocinco’s

Other Thoughts:

  • Brandon Tate is now the odd man out
  • Danny Woodhead didn’t look like he was still suffering from the hit during the Bucs game last week
  • Wes Welker can tackle, but can also injure himself
  • My rage meter hit a high during the game and forced my to walk away for a bit
  • Didn’t the Lions go 4-0 the season they went 0-16… ;)

Note: Sorry for the lack of videos and photos like I normally have in posts like these… There wasn’t many that came out of this game

Pats Bucs Thoughts

Studs of the Game:

  • Andre Carter
    • He was pushing over lineman and drawing holding calls all day. Right now he is looking like the best off season signing (granted, it’s still preseason and we haven’t seen some of the other signings play yet).
  • Danny Woodhead and BJGE
    • First off, the hit on Danny Woodhead was surreal and a scary moment. Now with that said, Woodhead had a great night with 63 yards and a couple of nice runs. Green-Ellis had 2 touchdowns and 51 yards on the day. He was hitting all the holes all at the right time.
  • Jerod Mayo
    • Mayo was all over the place and applying loads of pressure on Josh Freeman and Co. Tremendous is the word Russel Goldman used to describe Mayo.
  • Aaron Hernandez
    • Hernandez, well, was Hernandez and played well. What can I say? He’s going to have a heck of a season.

Duds of the Game:

  • There were not any players that stood out as duds to me…

Players Who Helped Themselves:

  • Kyle Love
  • Chad Ochocinco
    • His first touchdown as a Patriot can be seen here
  • Nate Solder
  • Will Yeatman
  • Stevan Ridley
  • Mathew Slater

Players Who Didn’t Help Themselves:

  • Jeremy Ross

Pats Jaguars Thoughts

Not to take the preseason too seriously, but the Patriots have gotten off to a great start with a 47 – 12 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Studs of the Game:

  • Stevan Ridley
    • Ridley rushed for 2 touchdowns and 64 yards in a great performance. I wasn’t to high when we drafted him, but after this game I can’t wait to see more of him. That and he’s going to be a fantasy sleeper for me this year.
  • Dane Fletcher
    • Fletcher looked like a star out there (granted against backups). He had a quarterback hit and two tackles for a loss. As Russ Goldman said, it was the Dane Fletcher show.
  • Brian Hoyer
    • Hoyer showed that he can manage and run the offense effectively. He was 15-of-21 for 171 yards and a touchdown, with a quarterback rating of 111.4 on the night. I’m hoping we can trade Hoyer for picks from a QB hungry team in the future…

Duds of the Game:

  • Patriots Special Teams
    • In back to back plays, the Patriots failed a 2 point conversion (resulted in Zoltan Mesko having to kick the ball out of bounds) and then gave up a nice chunk of yards to Deji Karim who made it to the 18-yard-line before being tackled.  Also, a penalty on Jonathan Wilhite took away a big punt return by Taylor Price.
  • Darius Butler
    • Its not that he struggled, but its that he struggled against backups and 3rd stringers. Butler is placing himself on the bubble with performances like this.
  • The Refs
    • The general consensus on Twitter is that it took too long for the refs to review the two touchdowns. It did slow the game down considerably and I would rather just have coaches challenge the play rather than reviewing the play if its close. Its going to take some time to get used too.

Players who helped themselves:

Other Thoughts:

  • Mark Anderson is a 3rd down pass rusher
  • Fletcher really surprised me… It seems NEPatriotsDraft was right the whole time (last year they were super high on Fletcher)
  • Taylor Price will beat out Brandon Tate
  • Ryan Mallet is the future
  • Could Buddy Farnham unseat Butler?
  • Terrence Wheatley still isn’t good
