Sign Welker, Tag Talib, Cut Vollmer.

Since we lost Assante we’ve looked for a difference maker at the CB position. Now I wish that we could’ve had Talib without the injuries and the duration of the AFC Championship game but I liked what he brought to the secondary. For as long as I can remember we finally had some continuity in the secondary and it helped. I honestly feel that if we allow Talib to hit the market he is gone.

We have a greater chance of retaining Welker without the tag. Welker has earned his contract and we should give it to him (a respectable deal for both sides). At this stage of his career, Welker should want to stay in New England and with Brady. These things IMO make a deal more likely.

Tag Talib, Sign Welker.

Sign: Welker because he is a value to this team and it would be very hard to replace him.
Tag: Vollmer because he’s a big solid guy and is coming off a huge season
Cut: Talib because he is injury prone and we could sign another CB coming off draft or got cut in free agency or pull a Deion Branch him and cut him then sign him to a deal

Cut: Welker….but we’d have to sign Edelman as a decent replacement. Then draft a wideout who can stretch the field.

Sign: Vollmer…when healthy, he’s one of the best at right tackle. If the Pats determine his back is too risky, he would be the cut.

Tag: Talib, they do need him for this year. If he behaves himself and plays up to his potential, he’s worth the money.

Ultimately, I’d like to sign Welker and cut Lloyd. This would increase the payroll about 4 million, but Welker is worth much more than Lloyd. Especially if they can get a receiver to stretch the field.
