*Think that it is too early to get a jump start on the 2006 NFL Draft... well then you are looking to get left behind... our staff can help organize or contribute to your organization, franchise, player rep recruiting list or media coverage now so that you will be ahead of the curve when the new cycle of scouting starts later this spring... please contact our office over the next 4-6 weeks for more information.

*Since you can never have enough great information on each year's NFL DRAFT be sure to visit and purchase a copy of GMJR... the only hard-copy draft publication that is authored by a former NFL scout, Russ Lande, who has scouted in the league with both the Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams... a valued opinion and great friend to our staff, Russ' insight are valued by anyone who has ever read his material... he also has a very unique grading system for quarterbacks, which he learned while working with noted quarterback guru Mike White, a 17-year veteran of the NFL, who currently holds the title of Director of Football Administration with the Kansas City Chiefs.

*If any/all of your clients have setup private visits/workouts leading up to the draft we are creating a chart for that, as well, since it has been requested.

*If you would like to include any/all Pro Day results, updates or information, please send it to [email protected] or 504.415.9979 before 7pm eastern each day for inclusion in the next day's report.Â

OFFICIALLY IN THE DRAFT:

CALIFORNIA senior wide receiver CHASE LYMAN has officially become part of this year's NFL Draft, as he was denied an extra medical redshirt year of eligibility based on him missing time during his college career due to various amount of injuries suffered in the past... gained a lot of new supporters by running and running very well at both the NFL Combine and his Pro Day just three months after facing knee surgery... he could slide into the end of the 3rd round (based on a team's medical evaluation), but would be a terrific "Day Two" addition thanks to his size, production and upside if he can stay healthy.

IRREGULAR HEARTBEATS AND PRO ATHLETES:

There has been a huge increase in professional athletes suffering or needing attention to address irregular heartbeats... why is this becoming so common place... are there any leading factors... can/will pro teams be able to perform additional research or medical/physical evaluations in future years to find out more about the players they are drafting... and what they are or have put into their bodies is still to be seen... but here is an analysis of some of the over-the-counter items that both college and pro players can purchase that might be contributing to the large number of athletes currently encountering irregular heartbeats.

"One of the biggest side effects of ephedra and caffeine can be irregular heart rates. Ephedra works primarily on the nervous system speeding things up which can lead to irregular heart rythms, many of which can be fatal if the dosage is too high. Many of the fatalities associated with ephedra are due to this result, however this is most common among those taking extremely high doses and shouldn't be a concern if you follow the recommended dosage. Unfortunately many athletes get into the mindset, if this much is good, more must be better. This is one case however where that is not true. While these products are helpful in improving performance, guidelines must be followed to ensure the athletes are not putting themselves in danger"... this analysis was contributed by SHANNON CLARK, a fourth-year student at the University of Alberta, she is specializing in sports performance and also currently training to become a professional fitness competitor.

GAME FILM UPDATES:

Our staff has recently received additional game film on the following prospects... HOBART, NY senior offensive lineman ALEX BELL... STONY BROOK, NY senior offensive guard DAVID CHARLES... *If anyone needs access to a copy of any of these tapes, please feel free to contact our office, so that we can make sure your team office receives them immediately upon request.

MIDWESTERN STATE, TX senior offensive lineman AMARIAH FARROW will have a DVD that will include several game films (East Central, OK and West Texas A&M) by the mid-to-late portion of next week... please contact his agent for more information or to request a copy of that DVD when it is prepared... you can also contact his school (Coach Fowler) to get an immediate copy sent to them.

MOREHEAD STATE senior cornerback CHARLES BYRD has a highlight/game tape that includes Coastal Carolina, Duquesne and Jacksonville.

DRAFT DAY VALUE BOARD:

Our staff will pick 1-2 guys per day who have the chance to come off the board earlier than expected through the seven rounds of the draft based on their position and the strength/weakness of that spot in this year's draft.

SAN DIEGO STATE senior safety JOSHUA DEAN (#42) has received plenty of additional attention since his Pro Day... Atlanta, Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Jacksonville, New England, NY Jets, Philadelphia, San Diego and Tampa Bay have inquired more about him, done private workouts or invited him to visit... one of the reasons for that is that teams who have reviewed the practice tapes from the Las Vegas All-American Classic have seen him playing both safety and corner in those practices... especially the 1-on-1 drills, as he matched up with all of the receivers on his team... showing better footwork, quickness and hips than many had thought for a kid that played mostly strong safety in college... has also been more flexible in workouts... hitting between 38-40" on the vertical... was a two-way standout in high school; football and baseball... created ten turnovers and had 13 pass breakups during his college career... plays the game aggressively... should also be solid on special teams... with the increased attention he has been getting the past few weeks it should come as no surprise if he rises up to being a mid-round selection (5th round) rather than the late round grade that most other outlets have placed on him to date.

PROSPECT UPDATE:

CHAPMAN, CA senior quarterback PATRICK JOSTEN, who attended the Pro Day held at the Home Depot Center in California last month (March 24th), had dropped a fair amount of weight between the Las Vegas All-American Classic (207 pounds) and his most recent workouts (188-192 pounds)... in our continued evaluation of him as a prospect we have come across a little known medical issue that was encountered by Josten prior to his Pro Day workout... about a month before his workout he was bitten on the left elbow by a brown recluse spider, one of the most dangerous spider bites a human can suffer, he was given an antibiotic, but within 24/48 hours he had signs of possible blood infection and had to be rushed to the ER... over the next 2-3 weeks there was swelling, fever, dizzyness and the area around the bite swelled to a golf ball size before finally being drained and subsiding... it cost him to lose 15 pounds, miss a few school days and practice sessions, but he felt that it would be seen as a negative for a small-school prospect to complain or mention this to scouts/coaches at his Pro Day... currently, he is back to the 200-pound range... his tapes show a kid that has a stronger arm than advertised... good athlete... has always been a quarterback at each level... and according to the people we have spoken with has always been known for his character, leadership skills and intangibles... all of these should make him a worthwhile free agent that could improve with a tour of duty in NFL Europe... if not he is sure to gain plenty of CFL attention thanks to his mobility and athleticism.
