Pyper's Picks - Week 12
By:  Pyper

Here are the picks.

#5 Indianapolis Colts (-3) at #24 Buffalo Bills (+3) These two teams couldn’t be more opposite. Buffalo has a strong defense and a terrible offense. The Colts have a strong offense and a terrible defense. Something’s going to have to give. Will the Colts defense be the fix for the Bills offensive problems or will Buffalo’s offense be exactly what Indy’s defense needs? Heck if I know. No bet. Colts 20 – Bills 13

#26 Jacksonville Jaguars (+4) at #20 New York Jets (-4) I really want to take the Jets and Chad Pennington in this one. CP is the real deal. This guy can play. But it’s that Jets defense that scares me. These guys couldn’t stop a paraplegic from running for over 100 yards. Fred Taylor is no paraplegic. Take the Jags with the points for $50. Jets 29 – Jaguars 27

#7 Seattle Seahawks (+3) at #16 Baltimore Ravens (-3) Baltimore’s defense is playing at a very high level. The Seahawks don’t play well on the road. I’m admittedly biased against the Ravens. I want them to lose every week. Give me the Seahawks for $25. Seahawks 16 – Ravens 10

#15 New Orleans Saints (+5.5) at #6 Philadelphia Eagles (-5.5) BIG Game in Philadelphia. It’s the NFC’s hottest team versus the team I think think will be the hottest team in January. This is my UPSET SPECIAL. I’m taking the Saints for $25. Saints 29 – Eagles 24

#23 Pittsburgh Steelers (+3) at #22 Cleveland Browns (-3) The Steelers have been killing me this year. I don’t want to take them but I just can’t help myself. The Browns will come back to Earth after slaughtering the Cardinals last week 44-6. No bet. Steelers 24 – Browns 17

#14 San Francisco 49ers (even) at #13 Green Bay Packers (even) This is another HUGE game in the NFC. Tim Rattay has the 49ers rolling but this marks his first start on the road. No bet Packers 21 – 49ers 17

#30 Detroit Lions (+10.5) at #17 Minnesota Vikings (-10.5) Last week the Vikings became the first team in NFL history to lose four straight games after opening the season with six straight wins. The losing streak ends this week. The Vikings are PYPER’S LOCK OF THE WEEK. I’m taking the Vikings for $50. Vikings 31 – Lions 17

#4 Carolina Panthers (+3) at #10 Dallas Cowboys (-3) Are all the huge games in the NFC this week? Apparently so. The Cowboys offense is struggling. They desperately need to steal a game to keep them on track to earn a playoff berth. Carolina pretty much has their division wrapped up. They’re playing for home-field-advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Take the Panthers for $25. Panthers 16 – Cowboys 13

#2 New England Patriots (-6) at #21 Houston Texans (+6) This is a potential trap game for the Patriots. They took on Tuna and the Cowboys last week and they travel to Indianapolis next week. The Patriots have excelled in these type of games under Bill Belichick. In fact, since Tom Brady took over in 2001, the Patriots are a perfect 9-0 against teams that come into their games with a losing record. This is the PYPER PICK OF THE WEEK. Take the Patriots for $50. Patriots 27 – Texans 13

#27 Chicago Bears (+10.5) at #8 Denver Broncos (-10.5) The Broncos are a team on the move. They are an elite team with Jake Plummer at quarterback. Their only loss with Plummer behind center was a one point decision at Kansas City. I’m taking the Broncos for $50. Broncos 31 – Bears 20

#9 Saint Louis Rams (-8) at #31 Arizona Cardinals (+8) The Rams have been winning ugly and Marc Bulger has been struggling. If that doesn’t change this week we may see Kurt Warner soon. Take the Rams for $50. Rams 28 – Cardinals 14

#3 Tennessee Titans (-6.5) at #29 Atlanta Falcons (+6.5) The Falcons have been playing better of late but are they overmatched in this one? The Titans may have peaked a bit early but they’re still playing well. This game should be a Tennessee rout but I wouldn’t be surprised if Atlanta plays them tough either. No bet. Titans 34 – Falcons 10

#28 Oakland Raiders (+11) at #1 Kansas City Chiefs (-11) The Chiefs are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season. The Raiders are down to their 3rd string quarterback, Rick Mirer. This one could get ugly but I don’t think it will. KC has problems on defense. They can’t stop the run. They give up over 130 rushing yards per game and are yielding 4.9 per carry. The defense will once again be Kansas City’s Achilles heel. I think the Raiders will keep this game close. No bet. Chiefs 24 – Raiders 20

#12 Cincinnati Bengals (-3) at #32 San Diego Chargers (+3) The Bengals proved they can hang with the best of them at home but can they beat teams they’re supposed to beat on the road. They failed that test a few weeks ago when they lost at Arizona. Will they fare any better this time around? Give me the Bengals for $25. Bengals 26 – Chargers 20

#25 Washington Redskins (+6.5) at #11 Miami Dolphins (-6.5) Pity poor Patrick Ramsey. He’s in for a long night. The Dolphins need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. They’re currently tied with the Broncos for the last Wild Card slot but they’ve got a more difficult schedule. No bet. Dolphins 21 – Redskins 13

#19 New York Giants (+5.5) at #18 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-5.5) What a disappointment for ABC. When this game came out on the schedule it was supposed to have major playoff implications. That’s not the case anymore. Both of these teams are realistically out of it although the winner of this game will still have a faint outside chance if they run the table. I think the Bucs will take this one. While the Bucs have been losing they haven’t been getting handled quite as easily as the Giants have. The Giants got killed by the Falcons and Eagles. That team is done. Take the Bucs for $50. Bucs 24 – Giants 6
